@Xenthys ... so channels would be the top level categories and then you mean these? They're called Threads on my end. You've mentioned tags as well, are they any different?

Forum channels are a specific type of channel that allows creating posts, it probably requires enabling community features first. I can directly help you manage the Discord server if you trust me enough with some kind of permissions, sooner or later you'll unfortunately need moderation as well because this platform is wild. Even though it all sounds great, for now I would probably keep it simple. Let the new channels be a good start. Once the volume is taking over then we will have to do some management... if by that time you're still available I would happily use your help !

The goal wasn't to make it complicated, just a bit more organized, I didn't plan to create a whole enterprise-grade server for two dozen people indeed

I'm fine with it, only letting you know I'm ready to volunteer if that's ever wanted

…especially since most of the community is silent 😅

Look, it seem to me that you know to push this forward... so what we do next? At this stage I am stuck at this option which forces me to enable e-mail verification. Do I need to enforce e-mail verification in order to enable community tools? (edited)

I meant complicated from my side, but it's only because I have no experience here to be honest... but it seems you do 🙂

It means people should have a verified email address on Discord, which is better because, well, the only users that may have an unverified email on your server right now are inactive accounts anyway. Discord will enforce email and phone verification for accounts it suspects of being spammers or automated as well, independently of your settings.

Got it, I've enabled it. Now I guess I need to assign you some Role? (edited)
Avatar
Only if you trust me enough, you can ask me for some kind of credentials in DMs if you want before giving me any kind of permission! Otherwise yes, you could create an Admin role and give it the admin permission for now since it will ease management, it can be restricted later at any time.

Don't give it any color and don't make it stand out in the sidebar, that can also be handled later if ever necessary.

Trust is a complicated thing, there isn't much to lose here with current state of Discord anyway, but so far it's a green light. I've granted you an Admin. "With great power comes great responsibility", but seriously, please go ahead and configure things. I would appreciate if you could brief me on changes before or after. (edited)

Alright, for sure! We could even try taking some time in a voice channel if you want, though our accents might not ease communications doggokek

I am amazed how complex and powerful this software is ... and it works on such a scale without jank ! (edited)

I'm currently at work so I'm not going to start any kind of configuration right now, but will handle it once I'm out

Having said that I know people have certain concerns with Discord, I guess it's still the best tool out there... perhaps eventually we can provide an optional alternative... but maybe let's not worry for now.

Ok thanks, good luck !

Due to the low complexity however, you don't need bots yet, but I will let you know which ones I recommend if it ever becomes a topic
12:45 PM
I can also answer these concerns, the program I was in no longer exists, but back in the days we talked with the Discord T&S team and could raise any concern we had
12:46 PM
You can guess some of us really like privacy and probably raised the concerns you may have heard about, next to that I still have a "line" with Discord staff as part of the "Discord Admin Community" but it's not as good as it used to be (edited)

Here's how a forum channel looks like in a server of mine, so you can have an idea before I edit anything
1:06 PM
Channel list / Posts in the forum channel / Content of a specific post that acts as a text channel itself
Avatar
Yup, so instead of endless chat it's more like a forum / ticketing, so basically each discussion is enclosed within itself. I think it makes sense, especially for support, billing, feature requests, bugs ... whereas offtopic, general and some other could remain just an endless list of comments or what's the best approach? (edited)
Avatar
Yep, that's how I see it too, and with that we can just keep general as-is without needing off-topic, simplifies things

I guess we might also benefit from some announcement / changelog thing as well. Basically specific channel with some news / new features / updates etc.

my day didn't really go as I expected but I'll handle that whenever I can focus on it

That's fine, no particular rush here.
